The Rockbridge Camera Club is open to all who are interested in improving and sharing their skills and enjoyment of photography, whether they are amateurs or professionals. It is the mission of the Club to educate, inform, and inspire.
Members are eligible to take part in special activities outside of the monthly meetings, including lectures and demonstrations of various elements of photography, workshops, exhibits, field trips and other photography related activities. Most outings and workshops are free to club members.
The club holds regular meetings on the third Tuesday, from September through May, at 7:00 p.m. in the Rockbridge Regional Library, Piovano Room. Photo enthusiasts are welcome to attend a few regular meetings before joining. Note: During the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, monthly meetings will be conducted virtually via Zoom.
In addition to presentations by knowledgeable photographers, the club also offers critique meetings. Typically, one month we will have a presentation and the following month club members are invited to submit one digital image taken since the presentation, using what they have learned in the presentation. Members then view a slideshow of the submitted photographs and engage in a friendly discussion highlighting positive aspects of each image, as well as thoughts for changes that could improve the image.
In addition to the monthly meetings, the club schedules photography outings throughout the year. Past outings included the Cass Scenic Railroad, Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, historic Masonic Theatre, Roaring Run Falls, photographing the Cascades Gorge, shooting the stars, C&O Railroad Shops, Frontier Culture Museum, plus many others.
The club also conducts workshops to help members improve their skills. Previous workshops included photographic composition, flash photography, Lightroom introduction, creative still life photography, video workshop, mounting your photos, printers and printing and iPhone/iPad magic.
