TITLE: The Secrets of Falling Water

Canon 5D Mark III, 1/20, f16, ISO 100, 36mm, ND 1000 Filter.

I had looked forward to the Crabtree Falls photowalk as another opportunity to use/practice my Neutral Density filters. I love the ethereal quality of waterfall water rendered fluffy, blurred, and textured by super slow shutter speeds. In this image, the log and tree frame the falling streams breaking over the jutting rocks and crevices. I made this image black and white because it seemed that seeing it in color obscures our ability to see the intricate patterns of texture in nature.

TITLE: Rocks in Motion

Canon 5D Mark III, 1/20, f16, ISO 100, 36mm, ND 1000 Filter.

This photograph is a crop of the larger waterfall image. Initially, my eye was pulled to the two rocks in the foreground. They appeared to shimmer and float in a mist. Pulling my view back, I focused on the lone stick in the background and pondered how the smallest of elements affect the composition and speak directly to the viewer. The beauty of digital photography and Lightroom.

TITLE: The Bridge

Canon 5D Mark III, 1/160, f3.2, ISO 100, 24mm

I loved this bridge at Crabtree Falls but couldn’t get at an unobstructed shot. I like this photo because of the detail it shows as the bridge extends into the forest green.
